Untitled Meditation (2013)

Instrumentation: SATB Choir
Duration: 3 minutes
Chris Neiner ยท Untitled Meditation (2013) - Excerpts
Program Note:
        Untitled Meditation for SATB a cappella choir is based on a poem by the thirteenth century Persian poet Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi. In this brief composition, simple, chromatic voice leading creates lush diminished sonorities and extended tertian chords. This sense of harmony draws influence from the choral music of Francis Poulenc and jazz standards of the 1950s and 1960s.

Text:
Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi (1207 - 1273)

O Love, O pure deep Love, be here, be now -- Be all;
Worlds dissolve into your stainless endless radiance,
Frail living leaves burn with you brighter than cold stars,
Make me your servant, your breath, your core.
