All You Need (2017)

Instrumentation: baritone voice, trumpet, trombone, bass clarinet
Duration: 2.5 minutes

Composed for loadbang at the RED NOTE New Music Festival 2017
Purchase
Program Note:
In a time of American history where discontent with political intuitions appears to be at an all-time high (was it ever low?) the words of Samuel Clemens may ring truer than ever before. A man of countless puns, quips, and zingers, Clemens’ had a one-liner for any situation and anything at hand, be it age, honesty, humor, love, anger, corruption, politicians, or even cats. While no individual is associated with this quote by Clemens, the man who compared congressmen to fleas may have surely had someone in mind.

Text:
Samuel Langhorne Clemens, A.K.A. Mark Twain (1835-1910)
“All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure.”
