Instrumentation: trombone solo
Duration: 6 minutes
Duration: 6 minutes
Program Note:
In this collection of three short preludes, each portrays the mood and quality of a specific shade of green.
The opening prelude, Olive Green, is lyrical and mysterious, almost velvety, capturing the dark, mossy character of the olive green color. It's spiraling, curvy melodies float across an ever-changing sense of harmony. Pine Green is the boldest of three preludes, depicting the majestic, deep color of a massive forest filled with coniferous trees. The music is broad, free, and noble; nature in her fully glory. Neon Green closes the work as a bright fanfare filled with vigorous rhythms and surprise dynamic changes. Shades of Green was composed in summer of 2017 for trombonist Kenneth Johnson.
