Burlesquing Movement (2012)
Instrumentation: saxophone sextet
Duration: 3 minutes

arr. string orchestra (2018)
Commissioned by Edina High School, ISD 273
Burlesquing Movement opens with fast, driving syncopations for the whole ensemble, but they're quickly followed by a cheeky, quiet echo. A saucy, Gershwin-like melody then appears, played by a solo tenor saxophone who slyly meanders under dry, rhythmic accompaniment. After a middle section featuring lyrical call-and-response solos for every instrument, the sassy melody reappears with even more vigor and intensity. Lasting just three minutes, Burlesquing Movement is a fast-track, colorful fun ride!
